ROOT SURFACE DEBRIDEMENT

WHAT IS
ROOT SURFACE DEBRIDEMENT?

Cleaning the teeth below the gum line is the procedure of RSD. This involves vibrating and washing away the plaque and calculus buildup from the root surface using small, precise tools. When gum disease does not improve with regular brushing and cleaning with the hygienist, RSD is typically performed. The goal is to thoroughly clean beneath the gum line and eradicate the germs that cause gum disease. The treatment is almost typically performed under local anaesthetic, and depending on the severity, it may also be combined with antibiotics for your comfort.

RSD is typically spread out across a few appointments to give the gums time to recover and function properly.
