If dental implants are not kept in good health over time, gum disease may develop around the implant, which may lead to bone loss, implant movement, and eventually implant loss.

Deep cleaning of the implant and the gums that support it is typically required as part of the treatment. If there is bone loss, additional bone regeneration and gum grafting treatments may also be necessary.
