WHAT IS A
ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?
Every tooth has a nerve supply that allows us to feel pressure, pain, warmth, and cold. The tooth's core contains the nerve, which extends into canals located in the roots of the teeth. It is possible for the nerve to become exposed and infected, if this nerve supply is harmed by gum disease, trauma, or tooth decay which can cause pain. The tooth is trying to inform us that something is wrong by doing this. However this could also make it challenging to eat, drink, and sleep.
IS IT FOR YOU?
A root canal procedure can be necessary if the nerve has become affected for any of the abovementioned causes. This procedure, sometimes referred to as endodontic treatment, involves carefully cleaning the root canals with delicate instruments, removing any exposed or damaged nerve tissues, and washing them all out to ensure the root canal is clear. Once thoroughly cleaned, the tooth's canal system is filled with a rubber-like material to prevent bacteria from entering again and allow for the restoration of its normal function. In general, the success rates are fairly high.
The only remaining option without root canal therapy is to extract the tooth and leave the gap, or to replace it with an implant, bridge, or removable denture. Despite the fact that these alternatives can be highly effective, they cannot replace a real tooth.
